Bastiaan Aardema (b.l.aardema@rug.nl), MA, MSc, works as academic staff member for the Joint Master programme in International Humanitarian Action at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Since 2004 he has been intensively involved with curriculum development, quality enhancement and TUNING within the framework of NOHA (Network on Humanitarian Action) and its European universities. In the EU funded project ‘European Universities on Professionalisation on Humanitarian Action (EUPRHA)’, he is co-leading with the University of Deusto (Spain) the work package that focuses on the development of a European Qualifications Framework for the humanitarian sector. Its intent is to provide a bridge between the already established humanitarian frameworks in the professional sector and the specific demands of the educational sector in terms of lifelong learning.

Clifford Adelman (cadelman@ihep.org) has been a Senior Associate with the Institute for Higher Education Policy in Washington, DC since 2006. Prior to that point, he served 27 years as a Senior Research Analyst with the U.S. Department of Education, where he built three national longitudinal study data sets and published 15 monographs and reference works based on those data sets. Since 2006, he has published three studies of the Bologna Process and one on comparative international data on higher education. He is a co-author of the Degree Qualifications Profile, a founding member of the advisory board for Tuning USA, and, in 2013, a resident Tuning advocate in Japan. He has been a frequent presenter of scholarly papers to the European Association for Institutional Research, contributor to European Journals, advisor to the research of the Tuning Academy, and currently sits on the project advisory and review board for EUROGRADUATE. He is a recipient of the Suslow Award of the Association for Institutional Research for contributions to higher education research. Dr. Adelman holds an A.B. degree from Brown University, and a Ph.D. in the History of Culture from the University of Chicago.

Betty Akullu Ezati (bezati@cees.mak.ac.ug) holds a doctorate in Education. She is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Foundations and Curriculum Studies and Dean, School of Education, Makerere University. Her main research areas are teaching and learning in higher education, teacher education and teachers’ professional development, gender and education, indigenous knowledge and education in conflict. Her doctorate focused on gender issues in higher education. She has undertaken several consultancies related to gender and education, teacher education and education in conflict situations.

Edurne Bartolomé Peral (edurne.bartolome@deusto.es) is sociologist and political scientist. She has a PhD in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Deusto (Spain) where she currently works as a lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences. Since 2002, she has been doing research on social values on comparative perspective in a European project called “EUROPEAN VALUES STUDY”. She has collaborated in various research projects at the Spanish and European level, and she is currently principal investigator of a research project on social trust in out-groups funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. She has been visiting scholar to international universities and she is currently developing the research component of the Deusto International Tuning Academy. Dr. Bartolomé is author of several publications on social values and comparative political culture.

Alexander Bedny (abb@unn.ru) is Vice-Rector for International Affairs of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (Russia), Dean of the Faculty for International Students, Head of the Center for Student Innovation Entrepreneurship. He holds a PhD degree in Sociology. Alexander Bedny is Deputy Executive Director of the Program for Enhancement of UNN Competitiveness among the Leading Research and Educational Centers, a member of the Council for International Students under the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region. His research focuses on the Sociology of Higher Education Management, and University Knowledge Transfer. Between 2007 and present takes part in such research projects as University Knowledge Transfer for Sustainable Growth (European Commission’s Tempus program); Scientific and Methodological Support of the Integration of Russian Higher Education into the Bologna Process, the program “Development of Research Capacity of Higher Education Institutions”, the scientific and technical program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation); Capacity Building Partnerships to Improve Tourism Education, Research and Industry Outreach, (in cooperation with the University of Florida, United States); Russian-American program «EURECA» - Enhancing University Research and Entrepreneurial Capacity; «Acquiring Professional and Entrepreneurial Skills through Fostering Entrepreneurial Spirit and Consulting for New Entrepreneurs» (European Commission’s Tempus program). Alexander Bedny is the author of more than 40 research and educational papers.

Pablo Beneitone (pablo.beneitone@deusto.es) is Director of Tuning International Academy at the University of Deusto (Spain). During most of his professional and academic career since 1994 onwards, he has been responsible for managing international higher education projects at university and national level. At the University of Deusto he was Project Manager of Tuning Latin America and Tuning Africa, and was involved in other regional programmes, Russia, China, and Europe, supported by European Commission. He has published extensively on the ‘Tuning Methodology’ and given Tuning-related conference presentations in more than 25 countries. Mr. Beneitone holds a Bachelor degree in International Relations and a Master in International Cooperation from Universidad del Salvador (Argentine). His doctoral research focuses on the internationalisation of curriculum.

Ronald Bisaso (rbisaso@cees.mak.ac.ug) is a Senior Lecturer in the East African School of Higher Education Studies and Development (EASHESD) at Makerere University. Currently, he is the Coordinator for teaching and graduate research in EASHESD. He is also the Project Manager, Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Higher Education Leadership and Management in sub-Saharan Africa (LMUU II, 2013-2015), in a multi-institutional partnership comprising Uganda Management Institute, Makerere University, University of KwaZulu-Natal, University of Helsinki and University of Tampere. He has taught higher education courses related to policy, leadership and management, globalisation and internationalization, and ICT in management. His research interests include higher education leadership and management in Sub-Saharan Africa, higher education and socio-economic development, organisational change, and capacity building in higher education organisations. He holds a doctorate of philosophy in Administrative Science specialising in Higher Education Management from the University of Tampere in Finland.

Cristina Churruca Muguruza (cristina.churruca@deusto.es), PhD in International Relations, is lecturer and researcher at the Human Rights Institute of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the University of Deusto (Spain) where she teaches international relations and humanitarian action and peace building. She is Director of the Joint Master’s Erasmus Mundus in International Humanitarian Action at this university, and Coordinator of the NOHA Master’s Consortium of Universities on Humanitarian Assistance and of the EUPRHA (European Universities on Professionalization on Humanitarian Action) Network. Her current areas of research are human security, protection and peace building. She combines her teaching and research work with the promotion of joint curriculum development and quality assurance in humanitarian action and participation in joint recognition and accreditation initiatives supported by the European Commission, national accreditation agencies and the European Consortium for Accreditation.

Liliya Erushkina (corresponding author) (lve@fis.unn.ru) is Deputy Dean of the Faculty for International Students of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (Russia). She holds a PhD degree in Sociology. Her research focuses on the Sociology of Higher Education. Between 2007 and present takes part in such research projects as Scientific and Methodological Support of the Integration of Russian Higher Education into the Bologna Process, the program “Development of Research Capacity of Higher Education Institutions”, the scientific and technical program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation); Internationalization and Implementation of Western Educational Standards in the Post-Soviet States: From Building a Network Toward Joint Research; she is the author of more than 20 research and educational papers.

Seppo Hölttä (seppo.holtta@uta.fi) is a Professor of Higher Education Administration at the School of Management of the University of Tampere, Finland, and the founder of the Higher Education Group. He is an economist and in addition to his scholarly experience, he has been working in administrative positions and in the roles of a consultant with issues of institutional development in Finland and elsewhere. He has worked with higher education development institutions in various African countries for over twenty years. He has trained numerous young African experts of higher education governance, leadership and management in the international Master and PhD programmes he has led. He is leader of the project Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Higher Education Leadership and Management in sub-Saharan Africa.

Oleg Kuzenkov (kuoa7@uic.nnov.ru) is Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (Russia). He holds a PhD degree in Physics and Mathematics. His research focuses on the modernization of Higher Professional Education, including the adaptation of the European methodological approaches to the Russian educational environment, and University Management and Quality Control. Dr. Oleg Kuzenkov participates in a number of international projects, including TUNING Project, in the field of higher education, with the focus on adaptation of European standards in ICT education; he has published more than 50 research and educational papers.

Proscovia Namubiru Ssentamu (psnamubiru@umi.ac.ug) is a senior quality assurance officer and lecturer at Uganda Management Institute. Was previously, a lecturer in the Department of Curriculum Studies, School of Education, Makerere University for 14 years. Main research areas include curriculum design, development and evaluation; pedagogy; education evaluation and assessment; quality assurance; teacher professional growth and development; cross-cutting curricular issues in education, in which she has also undertaken consultancy work for the Uganda Ministry of Education and Sports, Uganda National Council for Higher Education, USAID, the Belgian Technical Cooperation, Netherlands Initiative for Capacity Development in Higher Education and several public and private higher education institutions in Uganda and beyond. She holds a doctorate of philosophy in Education, specialising in teacher education, from Bayreuth University, Germany.

Elias Pekkola, M.Sc. (Admin.), M.Soc.Sc. (elias.pekkola@uta.fi) is a university instructor for administrative science at the University of Tampere. He has worked in several development projects in Africa on curriculum development and development of management practices. His research interests include academic work, academic profession, higher education policy and administration.

Paul D. Ryan (paul.ryan@nuigalway.ie) was a founder member of and remains a member of the management board of the ‘Tuning Project’. He co-chaired the Earth Sciences Subject Area Group from 2000-2009 and was principal author of the validated Tuning Template for Earth Science Higher Education in Europe. He has given over 40 invited presentations on Tuning and the Bologna Process globally and has acted as adviser to many Government Agencies, Thematic Networks and Tuning Projects. He was appointed Founder Editor of the Tuning Journal for Higher Education in 2011. He worked at National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway) from 1970 until 2009 where he became Professor of Geology and University Bologna Advisor. He is now Emeritus Professor and an active researcher in the Geosciences and in Higher Education with over 8000 citations. Paul has a Ph.D. in Geology (Keele University, UK).

Anna Serbati (anna.serbati@unipd.it) earned a PhD in Educational Sciences at the University of Padua (Italy) where she is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education and Applied Psychology, conducting research on teacher professional development and academic educational innovation. She has coordinated research projects concerning design and delivery of academic curricula and methods and tools for identification and certification of competences. Dr. Serbati has been a European consultant within the Tuning Russia project and she is collaborating in the Tuning EU-US Study. She is assistant Editor of the Italian Journal of Educational Research and a Junior Member of EARLI, the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction. Her principal fields of research are higher education, educational innovation, lifelong learning, competence assessment and evaluation.

Alessio Surian (alessio.surian@unipd.it), Ph.D. in Educational Sciences, is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education and Applied Psychology (FISPPA) of the University of Padova (Italy). He conducts research in the field of Social Interaction, especially concerning on-line and face-to-face collaboration, intercultural competences, and transformative learning. He has collaborated with the Tuning Russia project as an Expert, supporting the Social Work subject area working group. He is co-coordinator of the EARLI Special Interest Group 21 on Teaching and Learning in Culturally Diverse Settings.

Evangelia A. Varella (varella@chem.auth.gr) is professor at the Department of Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). She has university degrees in chemistry, pharmacy and theology, and is a doctor in natural sciences and a doctor in history. She has been/is co-ordinating approximately twenty national and European projects on her two main areas of research, conservation science and science education. She has been member of the Tuning project and operates a Tuning information point. She is former president of the European Chemistry Thematic Network; executive secretary of the Euro Label Committee, vice-president of the European Alliance for Subject-Specific and Professional Accreditation and Quality Assurance.

Robert Wagenaar (r.wagenaar@rug.nl) is a historian and at present director of undergraduate and graduate studies at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. He is also Joint Director of the Tuning Academy, located in Bilbao (Spain) and Groningen; and a member of the Editorial Board of Tuning Journal for Higher Education (TJHE). He is an external expert on Higher Education for the European Commission and has been involved in main initiatives to harmonise European Higher Education, such as the development of a European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) since 1988 and the Qualifications Framework for the European Higher Education Area and a European Qualifications Framework for LLL. He also chairs the Dutch team of experts for the implementation of the ‘Bologna Process’ in Dutch Higher Education institutions. Together with Julia Gonzalez (University of Deusto, Bilbao, Spain), Wagenaar elaborated, designed and coordinates the large-scale innovative project Tuning Educational Structures in the World.
